I write almost everyday. On those days I’m not physically writing (i.e. putting something down on paper), I’m reading, editing, studying, researching, planning, and handling the myriad thousand other details that comes with being a professional writer. Sometimes I'm attending science fiction and writer conventions or meeting writers at the coffee shop to chat or brainstorm ideas. Frankly, it’s a full-time job!
I came across this quote speaking to the seeming futility of writing. I think it captures a philosophical truth about perseverance and why you should never quit. Mainly, because it's not about you. It's about the words themselves that have power and meaning in our lives. Here it is:
"Lighthouses don't go running all over an island looking for a boat to save; they just stand there shining." --Anne Lamott
“Lucy, Wherefore Art Thou?” Alpha Adventures, January 1986.
“Fevreblau” The Fractal, May 1998. This is the short story which my later novel, FEVREBLAU, was partially based upon. The story itself was written in the mid-80s, but didn’t sell so I rewrote it.
“Fevreblau” Neverworlds, (reprint), sold November 2000.
“Joke Hell” Fantastic Stories of the Imagination, Summer 2000.
“Mawn” State of Being, July 2000

Hoover, Kenneth Mark. Fevreblau. Five Star: Gale. Dec. 2005. c.290p. ISBN 1-59414-361-7. $25.95. SF
After calibrating a signal reception device known as Project Star Whisper on the lunar surface, Nikolai Sholokhov receives a trip to Moscow that includes a rare visit with women "sheltered" in Union House. When one of the women escapes and begs Nikolai to take her away from Earth, he flees with her to one of the orbiting habitats of the Archipelago, where he finds himself in the middle of a vast revolution set upon changing the world. Set in a future in which most women have perished in a gender-specific pandemic, leaving the surviving females either protected or exploited, Hoover's first novel combines space adventure with social commentary in a fast-moving story that is suitable for large sf collections.
